Le Cirque du Fer à Cheval

The Cirque du Fer-à-Cheval in the town of Sixt offers an immense circus two kilometers in diameter delimited by imposing limestone cliffs from which many waterfalls spring up. There are twelve of them in the summer, but it's actually about thirty of these waterfalls that can be admired in the spring when the snow melts. The town of Sixt-Fer-à-Cheval is part of a protected nature reserve and it is not uncommon to find several ibex clinging to the vertiginous cliffs, and, further down in the scree, marmots warming themselves in the sun. The landscape offered all along the route will impress the hiker, in particular by the presence of rock giants such as the Pic de Tenneverge (2989 m) or the Tour de Prazon (2929 m) dominating the cirque from all their height.
