To transport the peat from Berumerfehn to the north, the Norder Fehngesellschaft (Norder Fehn Companie) had Oldenburg workers build the Berumerfehn Canal, also known as the Fehn Canal or Moortief, in 1794 - the Halbemond refused because they feared peat competition. Until the end of 1930, the transport took place on barges that were grained. Peat was shipped north and fertilizer for the fields (sea silt, clay, street manure, waste) to Berumerfehn. - As a transport route, the canal is of no importance today; Since the 1970s, the Berumerfehn Canal (eastern arm), the official name, has flowed into the Addinggaster Tief near Nadörst.
