Kluser Pappmule Monument

Highlight • Monument

Bronze - 1997 - Christel Claßen Braunsrath
The Haaren Carnival Society was founded in 1951/52 and named itself after this old nickname for the people of Haaren. They wrote in their chronicle about the name:
Referring to the "Alte Klus" (Old Hermitage), the people of Haaren in the Heinsberg region were called the "Kluser" for short. In many houses, there was a simple milk dish, the Kluser Papp, served in the morning or evening.

This is why the people of Haaren were mockingly called "Kluser Pappmule."

Thus, the nickname became a trademark of the Haaren Carnival.
Even today, Violet Tuesday is offered at the end of the season by the "Kluser Papp" fanfare corps.

And the president's scepter is a Pappläepel (laepel = spoon).

The village symbols of Waldfeucht, Haaren, and Bocket are bronze sculptures intended to characterize their respective villagers. They humorously reflect what the residents of the surrounding villages were known for in the past.

- the Waldfeucht "Vöchter Schörskaarschörjer" (Waldfeucht wheelbarrow pushers)
- the Haaren "Kluser Pappmule" (Haaren milk soup swillers)
- the Braunsrath "Röer Sennengsbük" (Braunsrath whey bellies)

The Waldfeuchter owe their name primarily to the fact that the town has always had many narrow streets. The wheelbarrow was the most important and indispensable means of transport for all farmers and tradespeople in the town. The "Vöchter Schörskaarschörjer" (Vöchter Schörskaarschörjer) can be found on Brabanter Straße at the roundabout.

The "Kluser Pappmule" (Papp Mule) on Brauereistraße in Haaren tell the story that the people of Haaren ate their "Papp" – a hearty milk soup with various ingredients – every day.
- The Braunsrath "Roer Sennengsbük" (Römer Sennengsbük) allegedly drank whey – a byproduct of butter production – out of excessive thrift.
