Highlight • Lake

Just below the Visitor Centre. It seems popular with fishermen as well as the reputed herons.

This location takes one's breath away.

Make sure you avail yourself of this considerately placed seat.

Whether alone or accompanied, allow yourself to be still and reflect on the magnificence of this beautiful spot.

The timber walkway beneath was replaced last year too.

It has been done to a fantastic standard.

It is heartening to see these glorious canals maintained so well for the current and future enjoyment of hikers and bikers.

Crowgutter Loop, Consall Woods

Highlight • Viewpoint

One of the Consall woods.

It is unique in that it is home to an old industrial waterfall and The Devil's Staircase.

A very happily situated pub near to the lime kilns.

Inside it has an open log fire (always a plus!).

We didn't try the food but when we finally got near to the bar (it is very popular and maybe a little understaffed?) next to the ales were samples of each.

Outside are plenty of benches you can rest on and watch the steam trains pass by or just to take in the tranquil surroundings of the Churnet Valley and the Caldon Canal.

Consall Lime Kilns

Highlight • Monument

A pretty little stretch of the canal nestled between woods on either side.

RSPB Consall Woods Nature Reserve

Highlight • Rest Area

A very spacious car park with a visitor centre and immediate access to many trails.

Bring a backpack and lunch and spend the day here.

There are many woods to explore that can be accessed directly from the nearby Caldon Canal and a couple of incredible places within walking distance to refresh yourselves, namely: Black Lion & Hetty's.
