Adam's Bed (Adamovo Lože)

"Adam's Bed" is an artificially created rock formation in the Hruboskalské rock town below the Hrubá Skála castle.
František Adam z Valdštejn, Knight of the Order of Malta and brother of Josef z Valdštejn, the last owner of the Valdštejn estate, had "Adam's bed" built during his stays at the castle. The base was a love altar with a statue of a pair of lovers and Cupid. Opposite was a carved sofa with a pair of lions. At that time, the whole area was called the Cave of Venus and it was meant to commemorate the three Adams - the first man, the founder of the Adam family from Valdštejn and František Adam, who had it built. The sculptor Chládek from Turnov was entrusted with the work. Today only the sofa can be seen on the reliefs.
