Sanctuary of Santa Maria della Cella

Highlight • Religious Site

The church of S. Maria di Meoglio, today known as the Sanctuary of the Madonna della Cella, is located in the middle of the woods and is the center of the ancient settlement of Meoglio.
Next to the church, rebuilt in 1848, the ruins of the old monastery can still be seen, documentary sources attest to the presence of the Cella di Meoglio among the possessions of the Monastery of Lucedio and here, according to tradition, in 1001 San Bononio worked a miracle there .

Lake Viverone

Highlight • Lake

Beautiful lake, the third largest in Piedmont. Of glacial origin and near the Ivrea moraine saddle. It takes its name from the village of the same name, it is worth going around it entirely and discovering its details, such as the prehistoric stilt houses (not at this point). A great ride especially out of season.

Cella Grande

Highlight • Historical Site

From the Cellagrande website:
"Among the rolling Canavese hills, cultivated with vineyards facing Lake Viverone, stands Cella Grande. An ancient Benedictine monastery, whose now deconsecrated church includes a stone bell tower and a chapel of Romanesque origin, built between the 11th and 12th centuries.

Here the monks who lived there used to dedicate themselves to viticulture and the production of wine from an ancient and native white grape variety called "Albalux" still grown today after centuries with the name of Erbaluce."

I would add that the foresight of this family has brought this Monastery back to life, in the best possible way.

The castle, clearly visible from the plain, boasts a thousand-year history, in fact already in 1070 it was mentioned in a document as a property of the Valperga family, which according to historical tradition were the descendants of the first king of Italy, Arduino. Over the centuries, the castle has undergone numerous changes, which have altered its original appearance as a stronghold, transforming the building into an elegant residence, which can still be visited, with richly decorated halls, antique furnishings and, outside, one splendid garden with a green labyrinth which is one of the largest in Italy. The best way to get there is along the old military road, which starts from the SP 56 starting from Caravino. Important: on the navigator's cartography a road was indicated that started at the roundabout on the plain, but I could not find it. The recommended access is therefore another road, which can be found on the left going down just before the bend. nice climb on a very good dirt road with regular slope, at the tip a splendid panorama over the plain with the greenhouse of Ivrea visible in the background. The well is visible immediately after the center of Masino, to the left of the only access road. It is protected by a grate, but clearly visible.
