Vittorio Belli (Rimini 1870 – 1953), who felt the pine trees growing and loved them like children, who lived isolated in his bush in the company of a monkey, was the founder of Igea Marina.
His was an ethical and urban planning project for a "Seaside City" in which the values of health and nature, culture and sport were translated into the ambitious creation of a model holiday centre. A green oasis equipped both for marine treatments, with a modern hydrotherapy facility, and as a cultural centre, equipped with a large library and a precious artistic collection.
A vision perhaps too advanced for that place and that time, but which was able to highlight, ante litteram, the need for an ecological reconversion of the values of the territory and the reconnection of the resources of culture to those of the environment.
The hope is that this in-depth study on the figure of Vittorio Belli will become a critical tool useful for reconstructing the map of the places in the territory of Igea Marina, making us acquire new awareness of the reasons for the present and the choices for the years to come.
