A very popular thing to do in Brasov is to go on a hike to the Tampa Mountain Peak. If you are visiting Brasov for the first time, definitely go up here.

You can take the cable car and then a short hike will take you to this place where you get a beautiful viewing point to Brasov and the surrounding. You can also take the slightly longer hike directly from Brasov. Both options are well worth it.

On the top you are at 960 m above the sea level, but the view to Brasov is very nice. Even though rare, you might see bears on the hike to here.

Great place to start hiking. The top of the mountain Tâmpa is not far. There are beautiful paths through the forest which lead to Poiana Brașov and La Iepure. There are no water sources in this area, if you choose to get to the city from Șaua Tâmpei, visit Poiana Stechil to have a quick break. Then follow the blue cross. At the end of trail, few minutes before reaching a viewpoint, you will see a public fountain on the marked trail towards Șcheii in Brașov. The trail lasts 1 hour close to a half. Trails leading to Răcădău are 45 minutes to 1 hour with breaks. There are bears in the area, so be careful, it’s best to come in a group and don’t panic if you meet one.

Mount Tâmpa

The limestone mountain Tâmpa, known to the Transylvanian Saxons as Zinne or Kapellenberg, is part of the Postăvaru massif in the southern Eastern Carpathians. The peak, located at 960 meters above sea level, rises almost 400 meters above the city. The mountain area is largely a nature reserve.
