Fonte Vella (Old Fountain)

Highlight • Monument

Also known as the Fountain of Álvaro Cunqueiro, it is located opposite the Episcopal Palace. To access the fountain it is necessary to descend a stone staircase.
It was built by Diego de Soto in 1548, as can be read on the plaque on the frontis. On the left is a fragment of a ROMAN TIME INSCRIPTION that was reused as a support for a cornice.
On the front you can see the shields of the promoter bishop and the imperial coat of arms of Charles V in a beautiful auction.
The fountain, which collects water from various sources, carried the distance above a hill, consists of an underground vault 8.80 meters long, 4.20 meters wide and 2.08 meters high, as well as a 4.5 meters long corridor.
The famous writer Álvaro Cunqueiro wrote: "If a perfumer from Paris came to the San Lucas, I would take him to the old fountain so that he would slowly suck in the scent of freshly cut grass hay and invent an autumn perfume from there..."

Mondoñedo Cathedral

Highlight • Religious Site

The Cathedral Basilica of the Virgin of the Assumption of Mondoñedo is one of the episcopal sees of the diocese of Mondoñedo-Ferrol in Galicia. The temple, in the Romanesque style with later additions and reforms, also has contributions from the Baroque and Gothic styles. Although its construction dates from the 13th century, the cathedral was not completed until the 14th century. Later, during the Middle Ages, a choir, the ambulatory and the sacristy were built, while the cloister with a square plan with semicircular arches and Doric columns dates from the 17th century.
