Montefioralle Castle

Highlight • Castle

Montefioralle is a hamlet belonging to the municipality of Greve in Chianti, in Tuscany. It' situated on a hill, in a territory halfway between Florence and Siena, and, just for this, much disputed in the Middle Ages by the two Republics.
The village presents a medieval urban structure and preserves ancient stone houses, part of the castle and most of the walls with three gates.
It's not sure that it can be the birthplace of Amerigo Vespucci, as someone claims; but indeed the noble Vespucci family owned a palace in this village.

Just a short steep climb from the central square in Greve in Chianti is the Museum of San Francesco, from whose courtyard you can enjoy a wonderful view of Greve and the surrounding area

He was one of those who came to America a little later than Columbus, but he explored much more of the Atlantic coast!

Greve in Chianti

Highlight • Settlement

Greve in Chianti is one of the bigger places in the Chianti area. Therefore also quite touristically developed.
Piazza Matteotti, the main square in the town, has an interesting, triangular shape. All around are pretty houses with restaurants, cafes and small shops. Wine and olive products are available in many ways.
A perfect place for a short break on the road bike race.
