The presence of a chapel in Sermet is attested as early as 1326, but the oldest elements of the current building date back to the 14th century, likely built during the Hundred Years' War.
The chapel was dedicated to Saint Madeleine in the 16th century and then depended on the abbey of Marmoutier.
It has a simple rectangular plan consisting of a timber-framed nave and a choir with a flat end, housing in particular tomb niches (arched tomb niches).
