The predecessor was an old, interdenominational chapel, which was demolished in 1865 due to dilapidation. The present Catholic church was built between 1892-94 according to plans by the architect Freiherr L. von Fisenne. In 1942, the bell had to be handed over for war purposes. During the invasion of American troops on March 20, 1945, the church was destroyed by shelling and rebuilt in 1950.
