In 1795, the Orrefors works decided to invest in a forge here on the Alsterån river. It was decided to build a production facility that would utilize the hydropower from the dam and charcoal from the surrounding forest. The ironworks ceased operation in the early 1870s.
After the ironworks ended, a small sawmill was established. By 1924, the timber stock was completely logged, and the sawmill was closed down.
The sawmill building remained until the 1950s and was used during the war years to store large quantities of wood for wood gas production.
