The Gjadri River is only about 40 km long, but over this distance, it overcomes more than 1000 meters of elevation difference. Its sources are located on the southern slopes of the Mali i Velës massif, and then the river flows through the municipality of Mirditë towards the Zadrima plain. Such a large drop makes the current fast, and after heavy rainfall, the water level can rise within a few hours.

Every year, the Gjadri transports thousands of tons of gravel, sand, and pebbles from the mountains. It is rivers like this that created the fertile plain of Zadrimë, one of the most important agricultural areas in northern Albania. Driving along its valley, it is easy to notice the contrast: the stony riverbed and, a few kilometers away, fields of olives, corn, and vineyards.
