The birdwatching station at Kalterer See is located in the protected biotope on the southern shore of the lake. The centerpiece of the facility is a wooden observation tower, which is accessible barrier-free via the nature experience trail and offers a wide view over the reed belt.
The reed area is the most extensive wetland in the Alps and is home to over 100 documented bird species. It serves as an essential nesting, resting, and roosting site on the bird migration routes in spring and autumn.
