An idyllic spot. This is especially true for the beautiful perspectives from the small river island. Those traveling by canoe must cross here and should take time for a break in good weather.

Upstream from Lüneburg, the Ilmenau was formerly navigable. Drawbridges along the river and the disused locks in Bardowick, Wittorf, and Fahrenholz bear witness to this. There is even still a tour boat in Lüneburg, but it can no longer reach the Elbe without extensive renovation of the infrastructure.
