Hiking
The first pontoon bridge over the Guadalquivir in Seville, opened in 1171, was built by Caliph Abu Yaqub Yusuf I. along with the fortress. It was repeatedly renewed over the following centuries. Due to the width of the river, the difficult soil conditions, and the frequent floods, the construction of a permanent bridge was not attempted until the 19th century.
