The bridge near Wasbüttel (Gifhorn district) connects the village of Wasbüttel with the municipality of Isenbüttel or leads towards the local "Feldmark" (agricultural area) and forest areas. Like almost all bridges over the Elbe Lateral Canal (which was built in the 1970s), it is a characteristic steel construction without central pillars. This is important so that the large cargo ships (pushed convoys) have a clear passage. The bridge has the standard clearance height of the canal, which is calculated so that ships with several layers of containers can pass under it even at high water levels.
