The Kalterherberg train station is still here, along with the old water station for steam locomotives. The former railway line has now become a cycle path (the Vennbahn) that leads from Aachen to Troisvierges..."

The Venn village of Kalterherberg lies on a ridge between the Rur and Perlenbach rivers, directly on the border with Belgium.

Kalterherberg borders the High Fens nature reserve to the west and the Eifel National Park to the east. Today, the village, with approximately 2,100 inhabitants, is a district of Monschau.
