The carillon in Drachten was designed by architect Gunnar Daan and built in 1996.
The carillon stands where the drawbridge over the Drachtster Compagnonsvaart canal once stood. A text by the writer and poet Harmen Wind can be read on the supporting beams. This text refers to the four elements: earth, fire, water, and air. It is written in both Dutch (outside) and Frisian (inside).
