The statue depicts the legendary Greek hero Odysseus.
The monument is a work by the sculptor Korina Cassianou from Ithaca and was unveiled in August 2011. It is characterized by a special feature: it shows two different faces of the hero:
One side shows an upright, young, and proud Odysseus, resolutely looking out to sea.
The other side depicts an aged and exhausted Odysseus, struggling against the waves while rowing - a symbol of his arduous, ten-year journey home after the Trojan War.
