The Kiekeberg was already a popular destination for day trippers and hikers in the imperial era. Until the end of the Second World War, the Bismarck Tower was located on the elevation to commemorate Otto von Bismarck.

Today you can find the open-air museum on the Kiekeberg, the Gasthof Kiekeberg and the Black Mountains wildlife park. A HVV bus drives to the Kiekeberg from Hamburg-Harburg.

In addition to the highest elevation in the city, the Harburg mountains offer a lot more: In the open-air museum on the Kiekeberg in Rosengarten-Ehestorf, visitors have the opportunity to visit historical buildings and gardens, take part in special campaign days or attend concerts. The open-air museum also has a lot to offer for younger visitors. Depending on the season, children can work, do handicrafts or build. On eleven weekends between April and October, the museum brings centuries-old crafts back to life.
