Built in 1618 by order of Cardinal Odoardo Farnese by Vignola, it currently divides the historic center of the town from the southern area. It has often been subject to modifications; for example, in 1857 a turret with a clock was added to the top, which was then removed in 1954 to lighten the load on the structure.
