Hiking
The flood of 1900 was one of the most dramatic events in the history of Pont-Saint-Esprit. The town experienced one of the worst floods it had ever suffered, resulting in significant damage to buildings and infrastructure. The plaque commemorates not only this specific event, but also the recurring threat of flooding that has plagued the town over the centuries.

Hiking
In Pont-Saint-Esprit, there are so-called flood markers at several locations along the Rhône. These indicate the water levels of past major floods and commemorate the flood disasters the city has experienced throughout history. Such markers are often seen on the famous Pont du Saint-Esprit bridge and other historic buildings.
Today, they serve as an important reminder and information for locals and visitors about how high the Rhône can rise during extreme floods. This also helps with planning and protecting the city from future flooding.
