The Freedom Tower is an architectural masterpiece in the heart of Tehran and is considered the landmark of the city.
The tower was built in 1971 on the occasion of the 2500th anniversary of the Persian Monarchy under the name "Shahyad" (the Shah's memory). The tower has the shape of a four-legged Ypsilon and was originally intended to symbolize the four primal civilizations of Egypt, China, Iran and Rome. After the Islamic Revolution in Iran in 1979, it was renamed the Freedom Tower and its symbolism focused on peace and freedom.
    Definitely worth a visit.
