The Banque et Caisse d'Epargne de l'Etat (BCEE) building, in a French-inspired Neo-Renaissance style with Art Nouveau elements, was inaugurated in 1913 after three years of construction. The polygonal, 46-meter-high clock tower is a striking feature. The main entrance is flanked by two sculptures:
• On the left is Mercury, the Roman god of commerce, wearing a short tunic and cloak. In one hand, he holds a cornucopia and a scroll.
• To the right of the entrance is the goddess Fortuna, dressed in a long robe and cloak, holding a full purse and a scroll.
