The Unterganzner hereditary estate, run by Josephus Mayr, is located on the eastern edge of the Bolzano Basin at an altitude of 285 meters and has been owned by the Mayr family since 1629. The vineyards grow on porphyry soil and are known for native grape varieties such as Lagrein and Schiava (Vernatsch). Of particular note are the wines "Lamarein," an Amarone-style red wine made from dried Lagrein grapes, and "Composition Reif," a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, and Lagrein. The Mayr family combines their passion for wine with music—every family member plays an instrument or sings.
