The name Isen is Celtic and means "the one that flows quickly". It also gives the valley and the town its name.
Water weir
The water weir, which is still partly operated by hand, plays an important role in regulating the water masses flowing away towards Lengdorf. A few meters below the weir stood the former "Lohmühle", in which Xaver Mittermaier generated electricity for the market town of Isen for the first time in 1897.
