Next to the ruins of the parish church of St. Nikolai there is a memorial to the fallen soldiers. A black column with an iron cross stands on a high square fieldstone base. The top is a ball with an eagle sitting on it. The names of those who fell from Friedland and the surrounding area in the Franco-Prussian War (1870/71) are engraved on a plaque on the fieldstone base.
