The patinated gunmetal bronze of the sculptures, which were created during casting from the model mold, contains not only iron but also tin, the ore of which was mined in Ehrenfriedersdorf until 1990. According to legend, wild boars discovered the mineral there around 800 years ago. Tinstone shimmered in their fur after a mud bath, which encouraged the residents of Ehrenfriedersdorf to search for ore on what is now the Sauberg River.
