The sanctuary of the Beata Vergine dei Miracoli, was erected in 1498 by the people of Saronno to give hospitality to the simulacrum of the Madonna del miracolo, a statue of the second half of the fourteenth century, then placed in a chapel on the Varesina road, believed to be the dispenser of miraculous healings. The Lombard territory was thus enriched with a new Marian sanctuary which soon became an important destination for devotion and which was enriched over time with formidable art treasures.
