There are many beautiful buildings in the area around St. Nicholas Church that make up the eastern old town.
Heavily damaged in the Second World War, the houses gradually fell into disrepair during the 40 years of the GDR.
Careful renovation work only began here in the 1990s.
Today, the small alleys with their lovingly restored houses are among the most beautiful corners of the city.
The streets of the old town mostly bear the names of old trades.
