Hiking

Until the 19th century, the square was located outside the city in front of the Niederntor. The routes to Herford, Schildesche and Heepen met here. It was named after the "father of gymnastics" Friedrich Ludwig Jahn on October 18, 1861. The square gained further traffic importance through the construction of the tram in the years 1900 to 1902. Today it is the most important junction of the city railway (underground stop for all four lines) and all buses serving the city center, as well as the meeting point for the night buses.
