The memorial stone was made in honor of the American pilot David W. Johnston, who crashed his plane on September 20, 1944 while attacking the Gerolsteiner engine shed on the Hustley. His remains were not found until 1952 and were transferred to Youngstown, Ohio in 1953. Source: Information board on the memorial stone
