The building itself has also experienced quite a bit: its core dates back to the 16th century, but it was destroyed in the Palatinate War of Succession in 1689 and only rebuilt in the Baroque style in 1747/48 – with the distinctive mansard roof that can still be seen today. The completion can be read on the north portal: May 30, 1748.
In 2023, a completely new section was added, the "Steinhalle", which primarily houses Roman finds, including altars and votive stones that were once dedicated to the gods Apollo Grannus and Sirona.
