    Hiking

Ophiolites are sections of oceanic crust and underlying mantle that have been uplifted or overlaid on continental crust until they emerge. The name ophiolite, from the Greek ὄφις (serpent) and λίθος (rock), literally means "serpent rock". This term is due to their characteristic greenish color, which resembles the skin of many reptiles. Ophiolites are also known in popular lexicon as green rocks or greenstones.
