Start of a long sandy beach stretching with mostly sand to the east, getting very narrow under tall coastal cliffs to the west. The historic pier is dilapidated and closed. The tall railway trestle bridge spans the wide plain cut by the river mouth into the coastal bluffs.

Historic pier at the beach at the moth of the Canada de la Gaviota. The campground has hiker/biker sites for $10 and coin-operated showers.
