The Schleifgrund forms the northern continuation of the Uttewalder Grund in the direction of Lohmen. The exact boundary between the two valleys is fluid. Typical for this "Grund" (as narrow, often gorge-like valleys in Saxon Switzerland are called) is the shady, damp and therefore particularly green microclimate. Due to the high humidity and sparse light, numerous ferns and mosses thrive there magnificently.
