This William Shakespeare statue stands in the Literary Mall on the southern end of Central Park, Manhattan. Unveiled in 1872, this bronze statue was funded in part by a $4,000 benefit performance of Julius Caesar on November 24, 1864, at the Winter Garden Theater, which featured the sons of Junius Brutus Booth—Junius Brutus Booth Jr., Edwin Booth, and John Wilkes Booth, the latter of which famously assassinated President Abraham Lincoln in less than a year later on April 14, 1865.
