The municipality is located four kilometers southwest of Sonthofen in the upper Illertal below the ridge of the horn chain.
The districts of Bettenried, Hüttenberg, Muderbolz, Oberzollbrücke, Sigishofen, Sigiswang, Schweinberg, Tiefenberg, Westerhofen and Wielenberg belong to Ofterschwang. Alpe Eck has been an official district name since the beginning of 2015.

Opposite the ice cream shop there is a small barefoot path, which is slowly becoming overgrown.
100 meters towards Bolsterlang and Oberstdorf there is a typical village shop that has a small and varied range.
A cable car to the Panoramaweg starts in Ofterschwang.
