The origin of the castle, originally called Sanctum Miniatum, probably dates back to before the year 1000, as in a document from 1027, concerning the missing church of Santa Mustiola, it is stated that it stood near the fortress. The complex maintains its original appearance with two parallel buildings, but the external appearance has been heavily tampered with. The extensive wall enclosure that surrounded the hill has been lost. The main entrance, previously protected by a drawbridge, can be reached by a staircase of 52 steps.
