In 1846, the town of Grunbach acquired this washhouse from Isaak Friedrich Gerst and converted it into a communal bakehouse. The roof structure was renewed, and a brick oven was built, in accordance with official regulations for conserving heating fuel and the prohibition of individual ovens in farmhouses.
