At the entrance to the Val d’Hérens, above a steep rock face, lies the village of Nax. The “Balcony of Heaven,” as the locals call it, at the Panorama des Jausses, more than lives up to its name. The architecture features a huge balcony with a view over the Rhone Valley, the Val d’Hérens and the Lower Valais. The famous canon Josef-Anton Berchtold used this view for the first cartography of the Valais. The pyramid of the “Point de triangulation” reminds us of the importance of the Rock of Nax for the realization of this measurement.
