Methuselah was 4,789 years old when sampled (likely in 1957) by Edmund Schulman and Tom Harlan, with an estimated germination date of 2833 BC. Since this tree ages back to this date, using tree rings, research shows precipitation patterns that date back to 1983 BC. It is located between 2,900 and 3,000 m (9,500 and 9,800 ft) above sea level in the "Methuselah Grove" in the Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest within the Inyo National Forest. Its exact location within the grove is a secret protected by the United States Forest Service. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Methuselah_(tree)

Prepare for a challenging jogging experience on the Methuselah Loop Trail, a difficult route spanning 5.2 miles (8.3 km). You will ascend 1019 feet (311 metres) in elevation, with an estimated duration of 59 minutes. This trail winds through the Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest, where you will encounter some of the oldest living trees on Earth. Look for the distinctive, gnarled bristlecone pines that have been shaped by centuries of wind and weather. The terrain is rugged in places, offering both steep climbs and rewarding panoramic views of the distant Sierra Nevada.

The trailhead for this route begins at approximately 10,000 feet, so be prepared for high-altitude conditions. It is wise to acclimatize if you are not used to such elevations, as altitude sickness can be a concern. The sun is intense at this height, and shade is scarce, so remember to bring ample water and sun protection. Even in summer, temperatures remain cool, but the exposed nature of the trail means you should plan accordingly. The rugged ground underfoot requires sturdy footwear.

This route is notable for its journey through the Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest, a unique high-altitude ecosystem. Here, you will find trees that have survived for thousands of years, making them some of the planet's most ancient living organisms. Interpretive signs along the trail provide fascinating insights into the geology and ecology of this remarkable environment. It is a truly special place for those interested in natural history and extreme longevity in nature.
