Lower Talkington Trail connects the Lower Paddock Creek-, Upper Talkington-, and Jones Creek Trails, but it's much more than a connection trail. It offers incredible Badlands views and if you are lucky a herd of bison or other wildlife.

Embark on a difficult 10.0 miles (16.1 km) jogging route along the Lower Talkington and Jones Creek Trail, offering expansive views across the North Dakota badlands. You will gain 503 feet (153 metres) in elevation over an estimated 1 hour and 59 minutes, navigating singletrack dirt and gravel paths. As you follow Jones Creek, the higher sections of the Lower Talkington Trail provide excellent vistas of the rugged landscape, making for a rewarding and challenging experience.

Before you head out, be aware that reliable water sources are scarce, and shade is minimal along the route, so bring plenty of hydration and sun protection. The trail is not recommended for jogging when wet due to steep sections that can become slippery. Also, please note that dogs are not permitted on the Lower Talkington Trail, so plan accordingly for your visit.

This route takes you through a vibrant ecosystem within Theodore Roosevelt National Park, where you can often spot abundant wildlife. Keep an eye out for bison, wild horses, mule deer, and various bird species that frequent the area. The unique badlands terrain and its diverse inhabitants make this trail a notable experience for those seeking a challenging jog in a distinctive natural setting.
