Embark on an easy jogging adventure along the Staircase Rapids Loop Trail, a refreshing 2.2-mile (3.5 km) route in Olympic National Park. You will gain a gentle 167 feet (51 metres) in elevation, making it a perfect quick outing that takes about 25 minutes to complete. As you move, you will be surrounded by a lush old-growth forest, where towering Douglas firs and western hemlocks create a serene canopy above you. The trail closely follows the North Fork Skokomish River, offering continuous views and the soothing sounds of gushing rapids.
Before you head out, be aware that the trail can become quite muddy, especially during or after rainfall, so prepare for uneven sections with rocks, roots, and occasional fallen logs. While the National Park Service maintains the more frequently used areas, conditions can vary, so wear appropriate footwear. Parking is conveniently available right at the trailhead, making access straightforward for your visit.
One of the highlights of this route is crossing the picturesque Suspension Bridge, which provides panoramic views of the river and its powerful rapids below. Beyond the bridge, you will notice mosses and ferns carpeting the forest floor, adding to the vibrant green landscape. This trail offers an accessible way to experience the natural beauty of Olympic National Park, immersing you in its unique ecosystem and the dynamic flow of the Skokomish River.
