This road cycling loop takes you through the stunning red and white sandstone formations of Snow Canyon State Park, past the Veyo Volcano, and down to Gunlock Reservoir State Park. You'll navigate diverse terrain, from sustained climbs with pitches exceeding 15% to scenic descents with sharp switchbacks, offering ever-changing views of southwestern Utah's dramatic geological features.
To tackle this moderate 45.5-mile (73.2 km) route, which includes 2764 feet (842 metres) of elevation gain and takes about 3 hours and 23 minutes, plan your visit for spring or fall to avoid extreme temperatures. An entrance fee is required for Snow Canyon State Park, and while the route is primarily paved, the significant elevation changes demand good fitness.
Beyond the challenge, this route offers a unique opportunity to observe lava-capped red sandstone and desert flora like Joshua trees. The descent into Gunlock State Park provides picturesque views of the Santa Clara River canyon, and in late spring, high water levels can even create waterfalls at Gunlock Reservoir, adding another visual highlight to your ride.
