The stone arch bridge is a building steeped in history. The bridge lies on the route of the former “Goldenen Steig”, which led from Passau to Bohemia. This old transport and trade route was first mentioned in documents in 1010. This trade route experienced a revival, especially in the 15th century. After a toll booth was built in Röhrnbach around 1530, bridge construction probably began around 1592. Tolls were charged on the bridge until 1806.
