The village was built on the foundations of a former Roman fortress, which was called Mons Buttarum (later Mondellebotte), and supposedly owes its name to a nearby river. This river can no longer be found today.
According to ancient writings, there used to be 4 churches in Bačva. However, today only 2 churches made of carved stone can be seen around the 10 houses.
The place has always been known for its good wine.
