Arpy has a history of anthracite coal mining. Starting in the 1920s, the deposits of La Thuile-Morgex were exploited, which for centuries had already supplied anthracite for domestic heating. During World War I, several mines operated independently, but were later acquired by a single company. The La Thuile mines were the only ones to continue mining, while the Morgex mines were closed in the 1960s. Today, on the site of the old mines, there is a still active mineral water establishment.
